Hooked on Napkins.
As I don't really have anything to add on the skill set side of this I thought I would at least explain my fabric choices this week.
I toyed back and forth all week with making polka dot napkins out of TaDot.
Or Salt Air napkins cause I had some left over.
Then I imagined chillicheesemouth all over those fabrics.
So I turned to The Bin.
Aka The Black Hole of Fabric.
This is a little corner of my sewing room yet unseen. It's my bin of non-shop fabric. And some t-shirts that I want to turn into something. And some leather scraps for..some reason.
This bin is a 30 year process. Buried in there is fabric from my childhood that I won't part with.
Then there's the college years (which is where that horrid brown and crazy lightning bolt on the left comes from.)
The zebra is from an abandoned safari bedroom project. (So glad I gave up on that).
You get the idea.
So I rummaged around until I found two pieces of appropriately sized fabric for this week's project and used them.
Ready?
There aren't any hooks in the house so the tree offered to model.
You know how some houses are known for something?
Fabulous dinner parties with place cards?
Cocktail nights?
Grill-outs?
I think I'm making a bid for the House with the Mismatched and Tacky Napkins.
Maybe I'll throw a zebra one in there...

Yeah, I totally can't make napkins out of 'the good stuff', in fact I wouldn't let my mum put out the white linen napkins that came with the tablecloth she got in the Provencal market last summer when it was dad's 60th because I knew they'd get filthy, in fact I seriously feared for the table cloth! I swear that if you learn things from your parents, what I learned was to not drop or spill or break because my parents do that all the time lol
ReplyDeleteI love making napkins. It's so nice to have a quick easy project to kill the need to sew urges.
ReplyDeleteif everyone has their own tacky napkin, then you can keep the same one for a while? They would be like those charm things they hang from cocktail or wine glasses. All that color would hid the food filth too.
ReplyDeleteAnd you can even turn your prize winning ugly swoon into a table topper! :o) I love this post. And I don't think the napkins are tacky. They have a certain cute everyday look to them. I was thinking, "OH YUM," when you mentioned napkins out of Ta-Dot, but the chillicheese mouth comment.. yah, totally agree! :o) Maybe the Ta-Dot napkins can be your fun cook-out/fancy dinner party napkins.
ReplyDeleteHahahaha! Love the bin, what a great name and random looking fabrics in there too. I have debated so many times over making tableware then think stuff will spill on it so is there any point? So your choices are great...=D
