Winter Stitching List

I used to make lists all the time. While unpacking from the move I found old lists on post-its, envelopes, in the edges of notebooks.

They were everywhere.

I don't think I've made a list in about two months now. And I'll falling behind on projects/deadlines. I'm feeling overwhelming.

In just a moment of fortuitous timing, I saw the Winter Stitching List Link-up on Fairy Face Designs.

It's so great. I need to make a list. And oddly enough seeing these other lists is sooo inspiring to me.

Let's get on it, yeah?

FairyFace Designs

1) Finish the ZZQAL. This one should really be no surprise. It's lived on my WiPWeds. lists for-flippin-ever

I've made the audacious step of putting the components in a basket on my desk.

2) Bottled Rainbows quilt.

Let's not talk about how long I've had this bundle. Nor shall we mention that the stickers are still on it...

3) Cooking Mama Rug. Because projects sitting in tupperware in my office are not attractive.

4) Game Quilt
This fabric has lived in that basket for well over a year now. I think they like it in there.

5) Eevees  cross-stitch. It was supposed to be a birthday present. Here's hoping it'll be done by Christmas

6) Cranberry Pillow Commission Quilt.

7) Trench of Doom!
That plastic bag is attractive, right? Oh baby. Everything is cut and marked and ready. And then stuffed in a bag. That's part of the process, isn't it?

8) Christmas Quilt. Not much I can say about this one as it's a big secret for someone I know checks my page. It's certainly a challenge tho'.

9) Tardis Cross-stitch. Another present. Started and then abandoned.

10) Table Runner for SHG's Wall Hanging/ Table Runner swap

11) Stitch up Logo

12) Peeps Quilt

13) Make Plush Prototypes. I sketched up the designs and haven't sewn them yet.

14) Monkey Quilt - This idea isn't even really formulated. I'd be glad to at least get a design sketched out

15) Goldfish Quilt - Another idea not really solidified.

16) Less Than Three Quilt
That's only about half the fabric I have gathered for this one. It's going to be completely scrappy.

17) Design a quilt/block. This is something that's been in the back of my mind for awhile now. I love the design process and I think I should really give it a try.

Whew. List making complete!

No idea what I'll manage to complete off of this but even if it's just 4 or 5 projects I'll be delighted. It's really good to have everything here together so I can see.

And my brain feels a little lighter not having to keep track of all this.

Farmer's Friday - Fabric Choices

Looks like I'm back to my nighttime sewing routine.
I really don't mind all that much.

Does make for terrible pictures tho'.

I should buy light bulbs...

Block #21

Bleh. Grainy nighttime pic.

Worked through this block pretty easily. That bottom set it off a little. But for the moment I'm okay with it..

Cause I have different problems.

This is my next block. Think there's enough triangles? Ug. Ug. Ug.

It's not even the triangles that I'm worried about (at least not right now).

Looking at the layout and the example in the book I'm really feeling that the impact of this block is the light background.

And I've got a shelf of Halloween fabric.

I really don't know what to do.
Most of the time I just randomly grab one fabric to start my block and coordinate based off of that.

I tried that method to begin with tonight.
It wasn't working.

I've used too much of the yellow recently.
And I don't have any more white dots.

Grr. It's the first time in this whole process that I've felt oddly limited.

Bloggers' Quilt Festival - First Year

It wasn't hard to decide what quilt to feature up at the Bloggers' Quilt Festival.

I've really only *completed* two quilts this year.

Lots of things up in the air. Lots of stuff listed on WiP Wednesdays. Lots of work going on behind the magic curtain.

Two complete.
Only one of these was for me.

And I love it.

Kaleidoscope Quilt Along at Don't Call Me Betsy

It's wonky.
It gave me fits.

I'm still partially convinced it broke my machine.

But it's mine. Its the first quilt that I did on my own without getting my mother to help with any part of it. It lives on my couch and gets fought over by me and my cat.

My cat wins more often then I'd like to admit.

It's my first year being part of this online blogging community. It hasn't even really been a year for me. Just under six months. And every day I'm inspired. And motivated. I love seeing the gorgeous finishes. And I love when projects go wrong because then I don't feel so bad when I'm hurling my own projects across the room.

Here's hoping next year I have more than two finishes under my belt.

No more secrets..I have another Guest Post.

So you remember that thing I made that I was super super super excited about before my trip?
Where I jumped up and down on the bed?
And then I was a horrible person that told you *nothing* about it.

I don't have to be horrible anymore.

It started as a sketch on a napkin and grew into a pumpkin block that I'm seriously proud of.

There's a guest post with the full tutorial over at SewHappyGeek!

I love this little block. I want to make a quilt full of them. And use bigger strips and make a wall hanging.

Clearly I'm gonna need some more orange scraps.

WiP Wednesday - Fabric a-go-go

Still no sewing today.
I had to run to the fabric store (Yay!) and then the grocery store. (Boo.)

I've still got some goodness to show y'all tho'.

My trip to the fabric store was because I managed to not have the fabric I *thought* I had for the Black, White & Grey Charm Swap

I also got a little bit extra for the Yellow, Aqua & Grey Charm Swap simply because I want some left over because it's a yellow that I actually like.

I'll be cutting these into squares asap:

Really not much to report here since I was traveling. I managed to not have any time for handwork.

I missed my sewing machine while I was gone so I went to start catching up on the ZZQAL when I was having trouble sleeping last night.

Still need to add triangles on the other side. And add the first triangles on the other half of the color strips. But at least I'm crawling moving forward.

Fabric a-go-go:
So outside of buying fabric, I also managed to steal the rest of my old stash from my mother. I really didn't remember most of this.

...that was just the top layer of the box. Let's just dump it over, shall we?

I think I have a little bit of a reorganization project on my hands. The great thing is that some of this was purchased 10 years ago. And it's been living in Kentucky for 5. So it's just a big ol' basket of surprise.
Hello fabric stash. Glad to see you growing.
(When I get done posting this I'm totally going to spend the gift certificates that I won, too. Never enough fabric. Never. Ever.)

Projects I need to get back into:
Less than Three
Birdie Stitches (seriously considering revamping the fabric in this)
Cranberry Pillow (commission)
Bottled Rainbows
Felt Food Fun
The Evil Bathmat

It doesn't feel right that the list grew while I was away. My Quilt Bee block isn't on the list but I need to do that one as well.
And there was the ideas I put into my sketchbook....
Somedays I think we should all have assistants...

Completed: 0
WiP: 10 (ew,,,double digits still)

Home again

I think it's fabulous that I cleaned my office before I left for Cali.
Because I've filled up that empty space with stuff. Heh.

I'm pretty sure my WiP post for tomorrow is going to be a supply-based post.

A little bit of a nap.
A little bit of laundry.
And I'm so very excited to get sewing again.

I'm gonna work through my blogroll tonight and tomorrow. Feel free to let me know if I've missed anything epic.

Oh..right then

So it occurred to me (as I was cramming the top down on my suitcase) that one may not have told you I was traveling this week.

I looked high and low around the house for assistants. Oz was curiously absent.
Which only meant that the one who had neglected to mention such a thing was me.

Right then.

Hello poppets! I'm going to be out of town and I've been so busy getting work done and cramming suitcases and debating trial size toothpaste flavors that I forgot to tell you!

I'll be on a plane tomorrow morning to Cali.
Back on Sunday.

I'm sure I'll be back to sewing by Tuesday.

For those that are curious, no..the stupid bathmat still did not get finished. It will be taunting me from thousands of miles away.

I found a cinnamon trial size toothpaste.

Because I know you were dying to know.

P.S. Please all hope that Oz doesn't decide to be helpful and sew while I'm gone. Kitties have terrible taste in fabric.

Farmer's Friday - Late Night Mojo

My hunt for Count Chocula took me well into the night.
But I have come home victorious.

That's right.
I'm here to talk about sewing.
Not my cereal addiction.

I think I'm getting my mojo back with the FWQAL.
Only one seam ripped.
And that was because I didn't realize there was a weird crease in my fabric.

Beware! Full night, stormy sky pictures ahead.

(I think after my trip next week I should research some diy photobooth projects, don't you?)

Block 19:

Block 20:

I really wish that wasn't the only bit of that small polka dot fabric that I have. I love it in that block. But maybe it's good I only had a scrap, otherwise I'd overuse it.

I hope there's more FWQAL weeks like this.
My seam ripper could use the nap.

Wickedly Wonderful Giveaway Winner!

Things are crazy around here. (When are they not, tho'?)

But I would never forget about drawing a winner for the Wickedly Wonderful FQ Bundle Giveaway.

Mmm. Yummy Halloween fabric.

Alright Mr. Random..
Who do we like today?

Which is...

I'll email you when I get home from the grocery store.

Thank you to everyone for entering. <3
This certainly isn't my last giveaway.

I have plans. Plans I say!

But first, I must hunt down some Count Chocula.

WiP Wednesday - Pffftttt

Oh Hai.

You ever have one of those weeks where you work really really hard on something and you're insanely proud of it but you can't show it yet?
I mean one of those "I'm so proud" moments where you run into the bedroom and jump up and down on the bed where someone happens to be sleeping going "look! LOOK!" and shaking your creation in your hand so said sleepy person can't really get a good look at it but you expect them to anyway.

Just me?

Well, that was my week.
Bed jumping and all.

Oh..and there's this monster..right here...

Stupid Towel Rug Project

Bleh. I'm so sick of looking at it that I don't even really want to take a picture of it. Can you tell? I sure can.

I spent *hours* cutting those little holes. So that's why only row is done. Here's hoping I finish it.

And there's this monster!

I've loved loved LOVED the monsters y'all have been showing me for an extra entry in the giveaway. The giveaway is still open until 11:59PM EST on the 13th!

The Real WiP Roundup:

I fixed some mistakes in my FWQAL

Outside of the monster.
And the monstrous plastic.
I got nothin' right now.

Linking up with Lee's cause it's tradition.
What did y'all do this week?

Farmer's Friday - Fix your Mistakes edition

Looking for the Halloween FQ Bundle giveaway? Go here!

We all know I had some trouble last week.

I hate moving forward with unfinished things so I spent some time this week fixing last week.

Honestly, I decided to keep #18. As messed up as it is.
In a whole quilt I don't think it'll look that bad.

#17 got a lift tho'. To make those corner triangles match up.

I've done better.
But I'm happy enough to move on.

Because my progress sheet needs more stickers!

Oh..remember that sketch I was looking for?

I found it.
While looking for batteries.

In a box of my better half's office supplies.

Of course it would be there.

At least I can officially add that embroidery to my to-do list now.

Fat Quarter Friday - October Giveaway!

Hello sugarplums.

I haven't forgotten about you.

I'm still stuck in my own personal nightmare cutting plastic.

But it's okay.

Because today is Fat Quarter Friday!

This month I decided to have my very first giveaway.

And it's full of yummy Halloween goodness.

You ready?

You sure?

Oh, I know you are.

I'm giving away a FQ bundle of Wickedly Wonderful by Teresa Kogut for Marcus Fabrics.

I broke open my own bundle so that you can see some of the fabrics.
I've already started using this line in my FWQAL blocks.
I love the yellow bats.
Love it.

That bundle almost ended up one FQ short.

Wanna know how those 11FQ's can be all yours?

Typical giveaway rules apply + a little twist:

1) Follow my blog and leave me a comment.
Or if you already follow (and I <3 you) then just leave a comment letting me know.

2) Tell someone about it using twitter, facebook, snailmail..whatever! And leave a comment letting me know.

because I do all things in threes...
no really..

3) I've been a bit derailed. I wanted to post a cute FQ-using monster tutorial this morning for FQ Friday. I always check online to see if anything exactly like what I'm planning has been done.

And I found the cutest monster ever.
It's super easy.
Already written up.

It's by Ellen Luckett Baker and the pattern is available for free at The Long Thread.

So, for a bonus entry, make a monster!
Out of anything!
And comment with a link to a blog entry/Flickr picture showing me your monster.

I'll be making one!

Oh wait..this fabric isn't for me.

Giveaway will be open until Thurs., Oct. 13th at 11:59PM EST.

Sometimes I'm really not so brilliant...

Here I am. Trying to make my bathmat.

What was supposed to be a quick and easy project has now turned into a tedious nightmare.

I couldn't find the gridded matting that I wanted.
So I grabbed the only piece of plastic canvas that I could find.

The openings are way too small for me to work with.

So I'm cutting them open:
Four cuts.
Every tiny square.
A 14 x 22" canvas.

WiP Wednesday - Conceptual Edition

It's another weird week around here.

Most of what I have to show is a lot of conceptual work.

I've reached a weird limbo where I've got some guest post/household/commissions/bee projects that are due soon-ish.

So yet again I've pushed all my regular projects aside except for FWQAL which isn't going that well. (I'm sensing a theme for where I do too much).

Wanna see what I'm working on?

A robot for Sew Bee Joyful's October block. He's going to be my first paper pieced block. I'm planning on making him at least twice. Once or twice with my fabric and then using the bee fabric.

The white is some Insul-Bright I just picked up. I have *no* potholders. I realized it made kind of a boring picture so I added the paint chips I've acquired this week. No idea what I'll do with the paint chips, but look at all those colors.

Variation on a log cabin block that I'm working on. Mine's a mini wall hanging but I'm running some numbers on making it an actual quilt block.

Another needed household project. I need a bath mat. That top towel I've had for 10 years now. I took it from home on the way to college and never lost it. It's coming apart completely so I'm going to make it a bath mat so I still have it.

Projects still waiting to be worked on:
Birdie Stitches - I'm still so uncertain on my fabric choice for this one.
Bottled Rainbows
Less Than Three
Cranberry Pillow(commission)

I'm hoping to at least get the household projects knocked out today. We'll see how that goes.

Completed: 0
WiPs: 10 (ack!)

A Glimpse into a Typical Afternoon.

I've begun to take serious advantage of the fact I have an entire room to work in now.
One with a door.
That I can use to keep the monsters out.
Or in..

I was on the hunt for two things this afternoon: the graph paper + a sketch of my logo I had made.

While I was searching, I thought it might be fun to snap pictures of the things I came across to give y'all a glimpse into my creative chaos.

Mind you that all of this is outside of the Fabric Corner of my room.
I keep all my quilting on one half of the room. Today's search takes place in the other half. The half of misfit projects.
Because while now I mainly quilt. That hasn't always been the case and there are a lot of other types of crafting that I do but just don't document.

Maybe I should show more of those.

Waiting for me right on the other side of the door was this tiny pile:

Some tiny crafts that came with my magazines. I keep meaning to do them. I'm sure they take less than a hour.
Now that I think about it there's three more somewhere in that room.

Oh look!
The fabric for one of my commissioned quilts has wandered over to join an epic felting project:
I started that project over a year ago.
I really want to finish it.
It's a pain.

Finally made it to the little mini bookshelves under my computer desk!
They hold my craft books + notebooks + sketchbooks + sketching supplies.
This is everything I pulled off the shelves to find the graph paper:
Now for that logo sketch.

I didn't make it in a sketchbook. I did it on some random piece of paper at work.
Or maybe at IHOP.
I wish I could tether a sketchbook to me.
I make notes/sketches on *everything*.

I know that looks like a shopping list. It's really a cryptic list for a gift.
With random xbox controller parts that didn't get put away.

Let's try the last pile on this side of the room!

That's just a muslin mock-up of a jacket I'm making. And all of the floss I need for someone's Christmas gift.

I wish that floss pile was smaller.....

No sketch.

I'll find it when I really don't need it anymore.
At least I have graph paper.

Although now I kinda feel like baking pumpkin cookies.....
